What is Feed Glasgow?

Feed Glasgow is an initiative run by volunteers and supporting organisations. We cook, deliver and distribute meals to soup kitchens in Glasgow to feed homeless people.

Why feed the homeless?

Feeding the poor or those in need is considered to be one of the most important concepts in Islam.

In fact, the Qur’an speaks highly of those who feed others, saying about them,

"And they give food in spite of their love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of God. We don't want from you any reward or gratitude." [76:8]

This concept of looking after others is called Eethar in the Arabic language; to prefer someone and their well being over yourself.

This project provides food for those in need in our community. It also raises awareness within the Muslim Community about homelessness, thereby enabling Muslims to actively support the project.

How does Feed Glasgow work?

The Feed Glasgow project is run by volunteers. We have volunteers who donate financially towards the project, others who buy the ingredients and others who cook the food.

Where is the food distributed?

The food we prepare is given out to the homeless across the city centre in various shelters and a soup kitchen in the city centre.

In future, we hope to expand this to supply other soup kitchens across Glasgow, insha'allah.
